Our Story

Growing up in Texas, Ashley was always fascinated with animals and knew when she got older she wanted to do something with them. By the time she got to college, Ashley still had the the same bright eyed look in her eyes about animals like she did when she was a little girl. While attending Texas A&M University, she saw all aspects of animal life from livestock in her animal science classes to insects in her horticulture classes. But the most interesting classes she took had to be animal genetics and animal breeds. These classes were the start of her curiosity with genetics and how it worked.

It’s like they say curiosity killed the cat because soon after that one of her friend invited her to go with them to a reptile show, and Ashley was hooked. Buying her first crested gecko (Viserion), then owning three, then five, then nine, it’s hard keeping count now.

Sargent Geckos started as just an idea rattling around in Ashley’s brain, and then shortly after became a hobby. By breaking down the name Sargent Geckos, the name “Sargent” comes from her beautiful catahoula leopard cur dog, Sarge. And we all know what the “Gecko” part stands for. Now of the logo, She wanted it to be different than any other logo before. One half of the logo, the grey gecko, is one of our foundational crested gecko females and the very first female I had ever bought, Echo. The other half of the logo, the yellow gecko, is one of our foundational crested gecko males and the very first gecko in my collection, Viserion. Lastly, the eyes of the gecko come from my Sarge’s eyes.

As Sargent Geckos grew, Ashley then met Damian. After some persuasion (just kidding), Damian then became hooked on geckos as well. He purchased his very first gecko, Hyde, a sarasinorum gecko. Hyde is now one of our foundation sires for our sarasinorum lines. After doing more research to imporve our business, he found the crested geckos that he really liked and wanted to enhance the genetics, which was the Axanthic morph. Aurora is apart of Damian’s Axanthic line as a foundational female.

Here at Sargent Geckos, we strive to improve and better understand the genetics of the crested and sarasinorum geckos and want to share it with all of you.
